Vegan Food Gifts is OUT NOW!

Vegan Food Gifts is now available!
The book is out now!  I am super excited about it. It's perfect timing, too, because we are just heading into fall, and the holiday gift giving season.  There are tons and tons of awesome holiday gift ideas in this baby.  And everything has a packaging idea attached to it, with make-your-own packaging step-by-step-fully-illustrated (by Kurt Halsey!) instructions.  And let's not forget about the pictures.  The amazing and wonderful Celine Steen has outdone herself again, with some of the best pictures yet!

So, to celebrate, what do you say I give a few away?  Ok, here's the deal.  Leave a comment below telling me the best (or worst) home made gift you've ever received.  I will pick 3 of you at random on Saturday, October 6 at 11am PST to receive a signed copy of the book, as soon as I get them in my hot little hands.

The giveaway is now over and my husband picked the winners at random.  Congrats to #14, #27 and #2!

And to get you in the crafty, gift making and giving mood, here's a little tutorial to show you how to make your own super duper cheap and easy (and super duper cute) cupcake liners...

I have made food gifts for many years. But I have to say the best homemade gift I ever received was from my Grandma. She took the ribbons from my fathers flowers when he died & turned them into a quilt. My sister also received a quilt, & my mother a pillow. All those ribbons showed a 10 year old girl how much her dad was loved.

The best home made gifts I have received are all of the clever cards my husband has made for me for birthdays, mother's day and anniversaries over the 30 years we have been married!

This book looks awesome!

I can't think of too many homemade gifts I've gotten in the traditional sense, but I've had many a kid that I've seen for therapy over the years give me some pretty awesome drawings. I used to get cookies and fudge at the holidays, but that was in my pre-gan days. :-)

The best homemade gift I ever received was a handwritten cookbook full of all of our family recipes (which I have since veganized!). It's so nice to have them all in one spot and have them all in my mom's handwriting.

I love all of the handmade gifts that I've received from my nieces and nephews over the years. One of my favorites is a snowflake Christmas ornament made out of popsicle sticks with craft paint and glitter. Every year when I put it on my tree, it is one of my prized favorites.

I can't tell you how excited I am about this book! The best homemade gift I have made was peppermint chocolate almond butter - in recycled baby food containers, cute!

The worst gift I ever received was a nail/string art kit (subject was a lighthouse) when I was about 8 for Christmas. All I wanted was a cabbage patch kid!

Best homemade gifts I ever got are the cards and booklets my children made for me when they were quite young. Sometimes just a small handprint, with a little heart, or hearts, inside; other times pages glued or stapled together in a mini-booklet, telling a story; always from the heart!

That sucks, man! I was so mad when I didn't get a Cabbage patch kid, and my sister did, so I stole some of my mom's pantyhose and made my own...ha! DIY 4-eva!

Best homemade gift was a little photo album from my daughter. Worst, was some homemade soap from a neighbor - it stung our hands so badly we threw it out after two attempts to use it.

The best homemade gift I've ever received was a few years ago for my birthday from one of my best friends who is an amazing artist. Her boyfriend at the time built a doll-sized wooden coffin and my best friend carved beautiful flowers on it. She paired it with a sign for my door that has my name carved into it along with some flowers and a fairy (I love fairies). All of it was done free hand and they are so beautiful!

The best homemade gift I ever got was a platter my 3-year old daughter painted at a pottery place for me. It even had her handprint on it!

My nieces paint pictures for me all the time, and my mom mails them to me. I live pretty far away from them now, and it's nice to know they're thinking of me occasionally!

I still cannot mention the awful ugly rainbow painted ceramic army tank my husband gave me as a gift on our first date. I have tried "losing" it too many times to count.

Ny kids made me many an gift growing up and I still have many of them...ashtrays (don't smoke) pot holders, Easter baskets, but I really honestly have never received a home made gift from an adult. I have no idea why, just no one has.

I love homemade gifts. I only have 1 or 2 except for the ones the kids made me while they were growing up. I also love giving homemade gifts, the thought, love and care that go into them cannot be replaced by store bought items.

Congrats! The book is beautiful. I'm off to scour my bookstore to see if it's available yet. :) Perfect for the holoiday season coming up!

As for homemade gifts - I would have to say a painting that my mom made for me.

hmmm...worst homemade gift? As much as I loved the sentiment, I really hated those years I received those hot chocolate mix and marshmallows in a mason jar.

On the top of my mind is the vegan cookies and/or miscellaneous baking that my Granny gifts me with! Best Granny ever. :) Your book looks awesome, I like the idea of giving food gifts but it's always intimidating!

The cupcake liners are adorable! I can't wait to get my hands on your book!

The best homemade gift I ever received was a quilt my aunt made me in my favourite colours. It's my favourite blanket - super soft and super warm.

A box of cookies from my sister. I had mentioned repeatedly to her that I would LOVE a box of baked goods and lo and behold! A box of baked goods just for me :)

I get disappointingly few home made food gifts, the only one I really remember is an orange tangerine marmalade my sister made for me, it was great! My mom also gives cookies, but she never wraps them right so they are always stale (don't tell her, please!!).

I like to GIVE home made gifts, though! And I love adorable ideas for packaging said gifts (hint, hint! Your book looks amazing!).

Thanks for another great giveaway, Joni!

Congrats on your new book -- it looks amazing, and the cupcake liners are so cute! :) My favorite homemade gift was a gorgeous pink scarf knit by my sister.

Someone gave me a jar of pickles she'd made herself. It was awesome.

The best homemade gift I've received is candies & chocolates. I'm such a foodie, so food gifts are awesome! Congrats on your new book!

I'm not sure I've received many traditional homemade gifts, but my high school boyfriend did draw me a Valentine one year with a cute poem inside!

Best handmade gift received was candied pecans from my mother-in-law over 25 years ago. They were (are) delicious and so easy to make that I then started making them as gifts during the holidays for family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. I still make and give them every year and they are my most requested food gift.

My friend used to make jewellery. A pair of earrings I have gotten from her is my favourite home made gift.

Haha--one year for Christmas my mom decided we should make gifts for each other and NOT buy anything. She attempted to make me a purse out of fake leather...it wasn't that successful :-) It was half done and kind of fell apart when I opened it!

My best gift is always homemade picallilli (spelling?) from my mum. It is awesome!

Your book is great, with lots of wonderful gift ideas!

I love giving and receiving homemade gifts. I have several faves including a drawing that I received from a friend and all of the cards that I receive from my sister. I once received a bottle of rosemary infused olive oil (which I thought was a great gift) but I never got around to using it. I also received some handmade soap and an exfoliating soap bag made from recycled coffee bags, I loved the gift idea but I didn't like how the soap smelled so I added it to a homemade gift basket that I donated to a non-profit fundraiser.

Last year I made wine jelly, strawberry sauce, and candied nuts to give out to friends and family during the holiday season.

Every year for Christmas, my grandmother would spend days making batch after batch of caramels. It was such an event, and so special to everyone in the family, near and far. I'm going to try to veganize the recipe this year!

Best gift was a hand-painted hat from my 3-year old nephew...he knows how much I love wearing hats! He painted us as little stick figures with flowers, sun, etc and it is still the most supercool hat I own. :)

My favorite handmade gift is from my husband. A couple of years ago for Christmas, he made the most beautiful adirondack chair. He cut out all the individual pieces of wood and even built a book holder on the back so I would have a place to stash my books or magazines. He did the entire project in a friend's garage, so I had no idea he was even working on it. It's my favorite chair.
